South Point 4/26/11

Undaunted by the cruise tourists, Laura and I hopped into the Jeep and headed to South Point, the southern-most point in the entire U.S.! It had been a port…
Pretty on all levels.
Can you say clear water?
There was a new wind farm that turning the constant breezes into energy.
A spearfisherman.
I could think of worse places to spend the day.
This is what I had in mind when I envisioned Hawaii.
South Point makes Mrs H happy.
After visiting South Point we took our Jeep where it was meant to go: Papakolea green sand beach. This was taken on the road to the beach.

Not exactly the place one should go snorkling. A strong rip-current here.
The grey rocks in the middle of the photo are all that remain of the outermost edge of the cinder cone.
Where's our royalty kick-back, Jeep??
Before we went down to the green sand beach, we stopped-off near Mahana Bay to survey tsunami evidence and to pick up some sample plastic from the Great Pacific…
Loved the contrasting colors here.
Sea cucumber?
This was our beach time. It was nearly 90 degrees, though and nowhere good to safely go swimming.
Looking back towards Mahana Bay.
