Mono Lake South Tuffa 6/25/21

Z and Laura happy to go check our the South Tufa!
This very simple sign nicely explains how tufa is created. There is some recent speculation that farming in the late 1880's may have contributed to the springs…
I wonder if we'll ever see Mono Lake back at this level in my lifetime. Got just over 60 years to find out.
Birds! Tufa! Family shot!
Everyone was getting a bit warm.
Tufa.
Kingston found a garter snake chomping brine flies along the shore!
Happy kid with a cute noodle.
Laura brought along sampling jars for the kids. Check out the brine shrimp!
More brine shrimp.
So much to discover.
Z samples the lake with tufa in the background.
Scientists all around.
Brine flies.
Pine pollen, water foam, crusted algae... quite a colorful mix.
More brine shrimp. Easy to see how they are a big part of the food web with their abundance.
Things to be discovered.
Tufa one deal.
I'm glad we can give Z & K the experience of touching Mono Lake's waters. I wish every kid could do the same.
Pahoa Island graced with some great light.
