The second night in camp at Colter Bay was clear... and cold. My thermometer measured 26.4 and I think the frost on the van windshield corroborates that reading.

We warmed-up by heading to the Cunningham Homesteading Cabin.

This had to have been a hard way to make a living in 1890.

Window view from inside the cabin.

A better window view?

Not a good window view.

Horance and Dimitri look for the prairie dog that was already looking at them (bottom right).

One of the neatest stops on the trip was getting to visit the Game Creek Archeological dig site near Hoback, WY.

The highway needs widening, except 10,000 year old artifacts were found on site. Thus a full dig was ordered before the highway can be built. This site promises to offer lots of clues into some of the earliest peoples in America.

Carefull measurments and documentation are key.

The lead archeologist describes the geology to us... I'll have to get notes from someone else because I left my notebook in the van.

This is a fire-cracked stone used in backing pits to soften local camas plants for eating.

There are hundreds of thousands of obsidian flakes in the area.

This gal found the only complete spear-head to date.

An excavated fire pit. The archeologists are looking for charcoal so they can carbon-date the site.

This doggie liked me.

Sifting for evidence.

The sweet projectile point found on site of the Game Creek dig.

Laura makes a friend.

After blasting through some boring parts of Wyoming we came upon Fossil Butte National Monument and lovely cumulonimbus clouds.
