This turned out to be one of my favorite MJC geology daytrips.  It was a perfectly sunny early April day in high 50's with no wind.  The wildflowers along HWY 140 were astonishing!
But the real star of this trip was seeing the remnants of the Ahwiyah Point rockfall that occurred a mere seven days earlier.  Over 100 tons of rock fell 1800' in this fall and exploded with such force that it created a magnitude 2.5 earthquake and air-blasted several hundred trees. The fresh dust, a quarter inch thick in places, coated most of the Mirror Lake trail.  AWESOME!!
