_4047786.JPG - This picture is fileld with geology. The foreground rocks are phyllites that have been tilted near vertical (convergent boundary) in the 200myo Foothills Terrane. The mountains that were created during this time had to have been eroded to near flatness. How do we know? Well, the distant tree covered hills of the Ione Fmt (ancient beach sands w/ lignite) are still flat and only 40-50myo. This is what we in the business call an angular unconformity.
