By far one of the greatest reward-to-effort ratio hikes in the entire Sierra Nevada. The drive to 10,060' Saddlebag Lake, just east of Yosemite's park boundary, takes most of the hard climb out of the hike and nearly plops one smack into the Hoover Wilderness. A short water-taxi ride or two mile hike along Saddlebag's shores will bring you to vista only seen in Heidi. Turn left off the taxi and head up to Mt Conness to see the relict glacier from the Little Ice Age, or take an easy stroll amongst many varied types of geology in the 20 Lakes basin. This trip, I chose to go cross-country and forgo the fishing for amazing geology. You can read all about it in my photo captions. Have a safe trip. |
