Latopie_Lake

Description of Latopie Lake: This extremely steep hike starts at the base of Koening Lake via 4WD from Leavitt Lake road off HWY 108. For those that are not used to cross-country hiking, the eigth-tenths of a mile takes nearly two hours of scrambling up and over loose talus and trying to keep one's footing while traversing stream paths. Latopie supposedly harbors golden trout but no life was observed in the lake during my one hour of fishing in strong winds. Luckily, the tremendous views (one can literally see for over 65 miles) make the hike very rewarding. Latopie can be more easily reached via a 4.5 mile hike from the PCT at Sonora Pass.
