Wanting to escape the late summer heat of the Central Valley (97+), Laura, my mom, my dad and myself decided to exert ourselves by hiking to Kuna Lake, knowing it would be much cooler at elevation. The path to Kuna starts at the Mono Pass Trailhead just beyond Tuolumne Meadows. In order to reach the heavenly-perched Kuna Lake, one must do several miles of moderate to strenuous uphill cross-country hiking after reaching Parker Pass creek via the trail. One need only follow Kuna Lake’s outlet to its source at 10750’ to gaze upon the amazing tarn’s crystal-turquoise waters nestled within a large cirque at the base of Kuna Crest. The fishing was surprisingly good for healthy brookies up to 11”. Enjoy the photos! |
