Lyons Flume Hike

A blast from the past (Memorial Day 2005, to be exact). Steve, Dave, Laura and I completed this one-way hike during a heavy-snow year that made any hikes above 5000’ unattainable. Instead we were treated to gorgeous dogwood blooms in a shady river canyon while walking along the amazing engineering of a historical water conveyance system. We were shuttled down from HWY 108 to the PG&E-owned Lyons Reservoir by my dad and hiked back to our cabin in Twain Harte. Being that this was a flume trail there was very little elevation loss along a trail that offered great views of the South Fork Stanislaus River for the first several miles before mimicking a natural mountain stream. I don’t know if this hike is exactly legal (walking on private property?) but there were no signs posted saying we couldn’t.
