| The backdrop. A glacially-carved valley consisting of groovy folded metamorphic roof pendant that is Paleozoic in age (300+ mya). What does that mean? Old seafloor consisting of limestone and sandstone was cooked, folded and uplifted when the surrounding granitic rocks intruded the area 100 to 80 million years ago. Note the the large fold in the top center of the photo that looks like a filled-in "U". |
