| This chaotic jumble of rock confounded the first geologists who studied the area because they though it represented a low-angle reverse fault. But with evidence of younger rocks on top of the section, later geologists finally figured out the area was subjected to low-angle normal faulting and extension, now known as detachment faulting. |
