  _DSC0148.JPG - So why stop here?  The rocks are mostly gneiss & schists, which tell a story of a tremendous collision that happened here about 1.7 billion years ago during two different orogenies.  The Yavapai & Mazatzal collisions most likely occured when New Zealand sized chunks of continent slammed into North America creating mountain ranges larger than the Himmalayas.
