| The first major display in the museum is the Columbian Mammoth skull and tusk cast. I believe this cast was created from fossils found in La Brea, but there have been similar discoveries of the beast at Fairmead. There is a large skull and tusk in a plaster jacket waiting to be prepared in a storage unit outside of the landfill. A paleontologist we spoke with said the plaster jacket and fossil combo weighs nearly 2000 pounds! |
